You are reading the inner workings of the mind of JayPeriod, J.R. Becker. J.R. grew up in middle America in the household of a dedicated, hard working union man. Because of that, the ideas often espoused in discussions of politics were those of the liberal Democrat party. The first election memories were of Jimmy Carter’s victory of Gerald Ford. They were viewed as a victory. Four years later, defeat came hard at the hands of Ronald Reagan.
As the time approached for J.R. to cast his first vote in the 1984 election, he began to listen to the candidates and their positions. It was then that he realized, much to his father’s dismay, that he shared many of the ideas of the conservative Reagan. He cast that first vote for the Great Communicator himself. From that time on, political discussions around the house were not pleasant and became fewer and fewer.
Eight years late, J.R. would be very vocal as the Republican party formulated its Contract With America. Those that knew him (he now was a member of the same union his father had been a member of) realized he was not union status quo. He was a very vocal pro-life, small-government, pro-family, pro-gun, pro-capitalism. Having been in the Army during the turbulant 80s also made him very pro-military.
With the advent of blogs, J.R. has taken his vocal promotion of conservative values to the next level. Notice the term, “conservative” rather than “republican.” While J.R. will vote Republican in elections, he is not tied to any one party and votes his conservative values, instead. On this blog, then, you will find much writing about those conservative values, but where the Republican party strays from those values, i.e. immigration amnesty or wasteful spending, he will call them out on it.
Hopefully, you will find topics and posts on this blog that will encourage and challenge you. Feel free to leave your comments. Make sure of what you believe, though, as J.R. is convinced that when most people think critically about the conservative agenda, that’s just where they find themselves lining up.
